Dr. Shapiro is a graduate of Oklahoma University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, and residencies in Internal Medicine at both Duke University and at Parkland Memorial Hospital where he was named Chief Resident. Dr. Shapiro received his Fellowship specialty training in Oncology/Hematology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
Dr. Shapiro is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, in Oncology and in Hematology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
For many years, Dr. Shapiro has served as Chief of Hematology/Oncology at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. He has held positions as Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Chairman of the Bioethics Committee, Presbyterian Hospital and President of the Texas Association of Oncology Specialists.
Dr. Shapiro is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Internal Medicine, American College of Physicians, Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has authored numerous scientific articles and abstracts.
Dr. Shapiro has special interest in breast cancer, coagulation and related hematologic disorders. He is on staff at a number of local hospitals.
Dr. Shapiro has been selected one of the "Best Doctors in Dallas" by his peers. The award is presented by D Magazine.
